Ramble Into Sustainability

Hey, it’s Jenny here from Refill Goodness, Maryland’s first refill shop.  What’s a refill shop?  We will get to that a bit later but trust me, you will like it.

I had the chance to catch up with Brick this week and as a music lover and festival goer, I was over the moon to hear about the plans for the Ramble Festival.  When Brick says, “We’re flipping the music festival script and instead of focusing solely on the music, we’re focusing on creating a vibe and building a community through the love of live music and shared unique experiences with other people,” he means it and I have no doubt that attendees will be talking about their experience for a long time.

One way that I would like to see the community come together at this magical location is to show other festivals how easy it is to host an environmentally friendly event.  Let's work together to leave the grounds better than we found them.  How can you play a part in that effort? Here’s a few ideas for you:

  1. There are 3 water refill stations.  You have access to fresh, clean, free water all day long (stay hydrated Ramblers, it helps you dance longer) you just need your water bottle or nalgene.

  2. There will be ample opportunity to recycle, so remember, your cans and bottles can go in the recycling bin - pretty much everything else is trash.  Keeping it separate is key to ensuring all the recycling goes to the right place.

  3. Picking up after each set is a nice way to say Thank You to the organizers and musicians.   Look for bins around the stage grounds.  **A quick note about cigarettes and microplastics (little itty bitty pieces of plastic - think sales tags, beads, sequins)...those items are tougher to remove from the grounds, so please be sure to use appropriate containers (trash) to dispose of them as needed.

  4. If you are camping on site, skip the solo cups and opt for a refillable version.  You can pack your treasures in reusable bags which are great for food storage, keeping things dry all while allowing you to skip the single use plastic alternative (we won’t name names).

Before we close, I promised I would tell you what a refill shop is - its a place for conscious consumers to purchase home and body care items in a bulk refill format.  You bring the container and pay by the ounce.  We carry everything from laundry detergent to shampoo, toothpaste to dog treats and camping/on-the-go gear.  Enter code Ramble at checkout to stock up on all the reusables you need for the event.

You, my friend, are what is going to make this festival one for the ages!  I can’t wait to see you all soon!

Jenny
